Key Features of Hot-Dipped Galvanized PC Strand

Hot-dipped galvanized PC Strand is an essential material in modern construction and infrastructure projects that demand high strength, low relaxation, and superior corrosion resistance. This galvanized steel strand is widely used in bridges, marine structures, and prestressed concrete systems, proving its reliability and durability in challenging environments.

By choosing hot-dip galvanized PC strand, engineers and builders ensure long-lasting, cost-effective, and high-performance solutions suitable for harsh and demanding conditions.

Each strand is protected with a hot-dip galvanized zinc coating, offering strong fatigue resistance and outstanding corrosion protection. During production, individual steel wires are passed through a zinc bath — a process known as hot-dip galvanizing. The final strand is twisted from 7 hot-dip galvanized steel wires, ensuring optimal strength and durability.

To ensure quality, the adhesion of the galvanized coating is verified through a wrapping test. After six turns of winding, the zinc coating must remain intact, without peeling or detachment.

High Tensile Strength

The galvanized PC strand is composed of multiple high-carbon steel wires (typically 3, 7, or 19), twisted together to achieve maximum load-bearing capacity. This provides exceptional strength for prestressed concrete and tension-based structures.

Galvanized Coating Protection

A durable hot-dip galvanized zinc coating safeguards the steel strands against corrosion, oxidation, and chemical exposure. This galvanized coating ensures long-term performance even in aggressive environments such as marine or industrial zones.

Prestressing Ability

Commonly used in prestressed concrete applications, galvanized PC strands can withstand high tensile stress, significantly enhancing the structural performance and longevity of concrete components.

Durability

Thanks to the hot-dip galvanized coating, the strand’s lifespan is greatly extended. It resists rust and deterioration even in offshore, marine, and coastal projects, where moisture and salt are constant threats.

Low Relaxation

The low relaxation property ensures that galvanized PC strands retain their tension over long periods, minimizing maintenance needs and ensuring continuous structural stability.

Flexibility

Available in different diameters and configurations, these galvanized steel strands can be customized to fit various construction requirements.

USE

Where Can Our Hot-Dipped Galvanized PC Strand Be Used?

Arch Bridge Cable Systems

Cable-Stayed Bridge Systems

Suspension Bridge Cable Systems

Prestressed Structures (not directly contacting with concrete mortar)

Agricultural Greenhouse Construction

Photovoltaic Mounting Suspension Systems

  • Bridges and Concrete Structures

  • Offshore and Marine Projects

  • Tunnels, Dams, and Retaining Walls

  • Industrial Buildings and Wind Turbine Foundations

  • Ground Anchors and Precast Elements

Some common attentions in using our galvanized pc strand.

The deflection tensile coefficient of standard galvanized steel strands (non-bridge use) should not exceed 28%.

For bridge cable systems, the deflection tensile coefficient should be no more than 20%.

During fatigue testing for general applications, the galvanized steel strand must endure 2 million load cycles without breaking.

The strand surface must have a continuous zinc layer, free of iron exposure, local dezincification, or other surface defects.

FAQ

Q: What is a Hot-Dipped Galvanized PC Strand?

A: A Hot-Dipped Galvanized PC Strand is a high-strength steel strand made by twisting multiple steel wires that have been coated with a hot-dip galvanized zinc coating. This process enhances corrosion resistance and extends the lifespan of the strand in harsh environments.

Q: What are the main advantages of hot-dip galvanizing?

A: Hot-dip galvanizing provides a durable galvanized coating that protects the steel strand from rust, chemicals, and moisture. It ensures long-lasting performance, especially in marine structures, bridges, and prestressed concrete applications.

Q: How many wires are used in a galvanized steel strand?

A: Typically, a galvanized steel strand is made up of 7 hot-dip galvanized steel wires twisted together. This configuration offers excellent tensile strength and fatigue resistance for heavy-load structures.

Q: Where is Hot-Dipped Galvanized PC Strand commonly used?

A: It is widely used in prestressed concrete, bridges, offshore platforms, tunnels, retaining walls, and industrial buildings. The hot-dip galvanized coating makes it ideal for marine and outdoor projects exposed to moisture or chemicals.

Q: How does the galvanized coating improve durability?

A: The galvanized coating acts as a protective barrier, preventing steel corrosion and metal fatigue. It significantly increases the strand’s durability and reduces maintenance costs over time, ensuring long-term performance in demanding environments.
